Top 9 Tunes to Get You in the Halloween Mood

So, at Curated House we are all exceptionally excited for Halloween for a host of different reasons. Some of us are doing fancy dress for the first time in 18 years, for others, it is the promise of mass consumption of alcohol or simply spending the night with friends watching rugby. This year, we are blessed with Halloween falling on a Saturday.

While this will mean that everywhere will be crammed with people in costumes of various skill and imagination, it also means you can indulgence in all things spooky, including unashamed listening to some of the best Halloween themed music… But that doesn’t mean resorting to The Monster Mash or Time Warp.

With a few days to go, we thought we would collate a list of some of our favourite tunes we’ll be playing at Curated House on Friday to get us in the mood for a weekend of pagan hedonism.

9 – Bad Moon Rising – Creedence Clearwater Revival

A catchy melody to communicate prophetic warnings of bad weather and death.

8 – Superstition – Stevie Wonder

Keep your head and don’t believe in things you don’t understand, like why we bought into all this Halloween stuff in the first place and what it’s become…

7 – Werewolves of London – Warren Zevon

Great werewolf make-up tips in this video.

6 – (Don’t Fear) The Reaper – Blue Oyster Cult

The subject of one of the best Saturday Night Live skits ever, where Christopher Walken as Bruce Dickinson has a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell… GOTTA HAVE MORE COWBELL.

5 – I Put a Spell on You – Screamin’ Jay Hawkins

Classic from the bone-nosed, leopardskin costumed, voodoo propped shock rock hero.

4 – Zombie Jamboree – The Kingston Trio

Complement Screamin’ Jay Hawkins with a bit of zombie-inspired Americana.

3 – People Are Strange – The Doors

The song title perfectly sums up Halloween. Essentially, it’s a big excuse to go out dressed like an idiot. The chances are you’ll come across grown men dressed up as eye-shadow wearing pirates at some point in the night.

2 – I Want to Bite Your Hand – Gene Moss

We allowed ourselves one truly Halloween novelty song, and this vampire-inspired parody of The Beatles’ I Want To Hold You Hand won out.

1 – Ghostbusters – Ray Parker Jr.

Yes, we have a lot of rock and funk in there, but is there really any better song to make you think of Halloween than Ghostbusters? It has it all! The catchy tune, the strong lyrics and the great film to back it up. We think this beats Thriller for the title of ultimate Halloween tune, and if you’ve got a problem with that… well, “Back off man, I’m a writer”.
